Summary: At its core, energy is leverage. It allows us to do more with less, and our ability to harness it has transformed society immeasurably since the Industrial Revolution. Now, as we become increasingly able to exchange energy for cognitive output, we have unlocked a new scaling vector for this leverage, one that could reshape global power structures over the coming decades. This talk explores that dynamic, its implications for the energy sector and for those who govern it, and the risks that come with a world in which intelligence itself is now a function of energy.
Speaker: Karim Arnous is the founder of Neura Energy, an energy tech startup that uses load-side batteries to unlock extra capacity from the existing grid. Neura serves chronically power-constrained industries, including EV charging hubs, factories and data centres, helping them connect and expand faster than the grid alone would allow. He is also a second-year part-time student on the MSc in Energy Systems at Oxford. Before Neura, Karim spent several years in large-scale battery storage, managing capacity market auctions for over 3 GWh of UK projects, and before that was an automotive journalist.
