We can have growth while fighting climate change

University of Oxford researcher Hannah Ritchie, the author of Clearing the Air, argues that a more optimistic climate narrative based on data is crucial for future progress. Ritchie contends that while the situation is serious, significant advancements, such as the dramatic collapse in the costs of solar and wind energy, show the world is decarbonising faster than commonly perceived. The central idea she promotes is that growth and climate action are no longer mutually exclusive because clean alternatives are becoming the better, cheaper option, shifting the current bottleneck from technology to a need for belief that progress is possible.
