Ofgem has appointed Elexon as the market facilitator for local flexibility

This follows Ofgem’s consultation in December 2023 on whether Elexon or the Future System Operator (the National Energy System Operator) should deliver the role.
The Government has set a target for clean power by 2030 and it is unlikely that we will reach that goal without having a system in which flexibility plays a much bigger role. The market facilitation of local flexibility markets will help to remove barriers that are preventing the full value of flexibility from being realised. Greater use of flexibility could reduce the cost of the electricity system for consumers, for example, by deferring or avoiding investment in network infrastructure.
