Professor of Sustainable Energy Engineering and the ZERO Institute

The Department of Engineering Science has an international reputation for its research in all the major branches of engineering, and in emerging areas such as biomedical engineering, energy and the environment, placing strong emphasis on interdisciplinary and collaborative work, both within engineering science, and across the physical, medical and life sciences.

The Department of Engineering Science and St Cross College seek to appoint to the Professorship of Sustainable Energy Engineering with effect from 1 January 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter. A non-stipendiary Fellowship with St Cross College is attached to this Professorship.

For an initial period of 5 years from appointment, the successful candidate will be additionally appointed as the Director of the newly formed Zero-carbon Energy Research Oxford (ZERO) Institute and will be expected to devote the majority of their time and effort there.

In this role they will lead the Institute through its first years, developing the vision, ethos, strategy, networks and research and teaching programmes that will position the Institute as a player engaging at the highest national level with government, industry, the third sector and academia. This additional role may be renewed for a further term by mutual agreement.
