New research collaboration on Net Zero Aviation
At the IATA World Sustainability Summit in September, Prof Myles Allen announced Oxford Net Zero’s new research collaboration with IATA (the International Air Transport Association) and VietJet Airlines. VietJet will fund research into the feasibility and potential impact of geologically balanced fuels (GBFs) as a complementary strategy to emissions reductions or more conventional sustainable aviation fuels for net zero aviation. GBFs are conventional aviation fuels whose CO2 emissions are compensated for by an equivalent quantity of CO2 being captured and permanently stored in geological formations. The overall project is led by Prof Allen, with ONZ Fellows Dr Stuart Jenkins, Dr Tom Kettlety, Dr Emily Cox and Dr Jessica Omukuti will leading on various aspects of the research for ONZ.
