National Grid and Space Solar explore wireless power project
Friday 13 Feb 2026
National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) has launched a new project to investigate if wireless transmission technology could enhance existing power grids.
The Wireless Power Transmission Project will explore how high powered radio waves could be used to beam electricity over distances, supplementing or even replacing the overhead wires and cables that connect today’s network. NGED will work with UK firm Space Solar, which is exploring how similar technology could be used to beam solar power – captured in space by giant satellites – back to Earth.
