How is the University of Oxford addressing the climate crisis?

On Earth Day 2025, Oxford launched its Climate and the Environment campaign. From now through to COP30, the campaign will showcase cutting-edge work through explainers, news stories, global events, social media, video, insights, expert profiles, policy briefings and more.
Rising global temperatures are driving changes in sea level and contributing to extreme weather conditions, causing catastrophic impacts on human life and a decline in the planet’s biodiversity. But there is hope. With the ingenuity that the Oxford community represents, global warming could be history. To make sure this happens, we need to reduce the production of greenhouse gases immediately, restore carbon dioxide to the solid earth and reverse nature’s decline, all while making sure that humanity can thrive in a world where the climate is changing at unprecedented speed.
The ZERO Institute and the Oxford Energy Network are delighted that so many of their members feature in the Climate and the Environment campaign (Paul Shearing, Radhika Khosla, Rob Weatherup, Malcolm McCulloch, and others), spearheading research, teaching and dissemination that change technology, policy and practice, towards a zero-carbon energy transition.
