A new study finds EV adoption could significantly cut energy use and emissions, but only with strong government action to reduce costs and coordinate policies globally.

The research, published in Resources, Environment and Sustainability, assesses how electric vehicle (EV) uptake varies across regions and examines its wider implications for energy systems and emissions. The analysis shows that adoption rates differ markedly depending on national policy frameworks, economic conditions and infrastructure development.
