Inquiry into batteries for electric vehicle manufacturing

Alt text coming shortly
Britain currently has only one manufacturer of vehicle batteries.

The BEIS Committee has launched this inquiry into the supply of batteries for electric vehicle manufacture in the UK, and the viability of battery manufacturing for electric vehicles in the UK.

The committee wants to hear your views. We welcome submissions from anyone with answers to the questions in the call for evidence.

You can submit evidence until Tuesday 14 February 2023.

The industry has recently suffered a series of setbacks, including the Government-championed battery start-up Britishvolt entering administration and leading to the redundancy of 300 employees.

This has followed on from the news that in October BMW halted production of the electric Mini in Oxford. It leaves Chinese-backed Envision’s site in Sunderland as Britain’s only manufacturer of vehicle batteries ahead of the looming ban on the sale of petrol and diesel vehicles in 2030.
