Summary: The ESO has now become NESO, the National Energy System Operator, an independent public corporation with new planning and advisory responsibilities across the whole energy system.
The drive toward decarbonisation and net zero has never felt more acute, a responsibility NESO take seriously. The energy sector continues to evolve at pace, developing new technologies and solutions to manage the network sustainably, securely, and affordably, and with these come new challenges.
Innovation plays a critical role in accelerating the progress toward NESO’s ambitions decarbonisation goals, in meeting the challenges of this transition and shaping the energy system of the future. This seminar will highlight NESO’s innovation strategy priorities, describe funding routes, and illustrate a number of the innovation projects in their portfolio.
Speaker: Dr Claudia Centazzo is the Innovation Portfolio Manager at the now NESO. She is responsible for the portfolio of innovation projects that will help the UK achieving its ambitious targets towards Net Zero. From contracting and negotiating terms and conditions for innovation, to tracking of innovation funding and regulatory reporting to Ofgem, Claudia’s team ensures the portfolio is balanced and carries the appropriate amount of risk to be innovative! Claudia has worked at the now NESO for 18 months and prior was the Commercial Director of a data analysis and modelling consultancy for 15 years. Claudia holds a PHD in Pure Mathematics from the Universite de Louvain-la-Neuve in Belgium.
